About MPS

The Moncado Preservation Society is a community-driven nonprofit dedicated to preserving and perpetuating a historic Filipino Moncado church, a recognized State of Hawai‘i historical site.

Formed by concerned community members, descendants, and supporters, the Society exists to protect this sacred site as a place of worship, cultural memory, and Filipino identity for present and future generations.

Our primary purpose is to safeguard the property and its legacy from foreign control, misuse, or sale, especially in light of concerns about an illegal takeover by the current organization claiming authority over the site. We are committed to ensuring that stewardship of this site remains in the hands of the community it was built to serve, honoring the intentions of its founders and the spiritual traditions practiced there.

Through education, advocacy, and active restoration, the Preservation Society works to:

  • Uphold the church’s legal status as a protected historical landmark

  • Maintain and restore the physical property in a manner consistent with its cultural and spiritual significance

  • Document and share the history of the Filipino Moncado faith community in Hawai‘i

  • Create programming that connects Filipino Americans, the broader Filipino diaspora, and the Hawai‘i community to this living heritage

This is fundamentally a collective effort. Volunteers, families, cultural practitioners, faith leaders, and allies all play a role in protecting the church, defending it from unlawful control or sale, and ensuring that its spiritual practice and community purpose remain central. By working together, we strive to keep this historic Filipino landmark alive, accessible, and rooted in community self-determination, rather than outside or foreign interests.
